The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the 4th Braid Scout Group.
Beavers are our youngest members, and meet for an hour per week. They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Beaver Scout sleepover with their friends.
During their time in the Colony, Beaver Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips, days out, and on sleepovers. Participation, rather than meeting set standards, is the key approach, and there are a range of badges and challenge awards that Beaver Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.

There is no need to wear uniform for the first short period until the young person decides to
stay. New uniforms are sold on the Scout Store at: Scout Store.
It’s wise to name uniforms (and indeed other clothing)!
There is an active second-hand market for uniforms if you don’t want to buy new.
As well as providing a great programme focussing on fun activities, badges, and adventure, all the sections run special activities and camps.
Beavers usually have one camp per year. These are optional but are lots of fun. They will typically incur their own fee which is subsidised by our fundraising. But it’s really important to us that no young person is left out because of financial issues. If you would like to ask about part or full funding for any activity or camp, please feel free to have a quiet word with any leader. The leaders will advise with plenty notice, the dates of upcoming events or activities which require sign up and/or payment. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
Our fundraising efforts mean we can keep subscription costs low. The subscriptions more or less cover our fees to the Scout Association. Subscriptions amount annually to £81 for each member of the Group.
They are paid in three instalments, in October, January and April. We are a registered charity and can reclaim Gift Aid on the subscriptions, so we ask families to sign a Gift Aid declaration if they pay tax.
